Race for a Better Place at the Mariners' Museum April 20th, 2013.
Join the Junior League of Hampton Roads for the annual 8K, 5K and 100 year dash on Saturday, April 20, 2013. The Race for a Better Place, formally known as the Trot for Teal, is a great way to make a difference in the community while enjoying a great race course through Newport News.
For the past three years, the JLHR has held the "Trot for Teal" race to help raise awareness of women’s reproductive cancers . (The awareness color for gynecological cancers is teal.) In 2010 and 2011, the 5K race was held in City Center of Newport News. In 2012, an 8K race was added, and the race moved to the Mariners’ Museum. In 2013, the race was renamed "Race for a Better Place" to better fit the JLHR's 2013 Signature Project: Women's Initiative for Success and Empowerment". Timing for the race has been provided by the Peninsula Track Club.
The number of race participants has grown significantly over the past three years, with approximately 100 in 2010, 230 in 2011, and 375 in 2012. With the growth in participants, the fun has grown as well! We are excited to present the 2013 Junior League of Hampton Roads Race for a Better Place.
