Junior League of Hampton Roads, Inc. Announces "Miles of Smiles" Event
for Children with Disabilities at the Virginia Living Museum
NEWPORT NEWS, VA -October 10, 2008-The Junior League of Hampton Roads, Inc., (www.jlhr.org) a non-profit organization of women and member of Association of Junior Leagues International (www.ajli.org,) announces its first event: "Miles of Smiles" for children with disabilities. The purpose of this event is to allow families of children with special needs to experience after normal business hours the Virginia Living Museum and enjoy the Virginia Living Museum's new exhibit "Animal Music: Sounds and Songs of Life" free of charge. The first "Miles of Smiles" event will take place on November 7th from 6-8 p.m. at the Virginia Living Museum. Goody bags will be given to the first 200 children who attend.
Members of JLHR and staff of the Virginia Living Museum want to promote a quality outing for families with a child who may have barriers to attend during regular operating hours. The event is for children with any physical, neurological, and/or emotional disabilities and their families. As the Junior League of Hampton Roads seeks to reach out through voluntarism, we want to express value to everyone in our community, especially families with special needs.
Mission: The Junior League of Hampton Roads, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
