Ferguson and local nonprofits provide Bright Beginnings
for youth starting school
NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Ferguson and the Junior League of Hampton Roads teamed with the Peninsula Metropolitan YMCA to provide school supplies to area youth through the YMCA's Bright Beginnings program. The program is a community initiative that provides children in need with the new clothes and school supplies to start the school year with confidence and pride. The YMCA has set a goal this year of helping 750 children and raising $112,500 in support.
"Ferguson associates are passionate about helping the communities in which we live, and we are proud to have been a part of this important project," said John Stegeman, president and chief executive officer of Ferguson. "Every child deserves the opportunity to start school with the tools to succeed, and through the support of our associates we are able to help make that a reality."
Ferguson associates donated 85 glue sticks, 71 boxes of crayons, 70 notebooks, 49 packages of notebook paper, 34 composition notebooks, 25 boxes of colored pencils, 25 boxes of No. 2 pencils, 19 boxes of erasers, 18 scissors, 17 boxes of markers, 14 rulers, six backpacks, one pencil box, one calculator, one school solutions kit, and one Crayola Fun Pack, in addition to monetary donations. "The Junior League takes great pride in supporting the YMCA and ensuring that the Peninsula's children are prepared for school," said Kristin Sgambelluri, member of the Junior League of Hampton Roads and Ferguson associate.
