The Junior League of Hampton Roads (JLHR) invites the community to attend the sixth annual casino night on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at the Virginia Living Museum in Newport News. This year's theme, "Take a Chance on Our Children" will offer guests an evening filled with casino games, entertainment, and delicious food prepared on site by Carrabba's Italian Grill. Guests will also have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction and raffle. Proceeds from the event will benefit the JLHR's various community projects for children including Girls of Excellence and the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula's Food 4 Kid's Back Pack Program.

Tickets for "Take a Chance on our Children" are priced $35.00 per person for standard admission and $75.00 per person for VIP admission. A few corporate sponsorship opportunities are still available. For more information on purchasing tickets, sponsorship information, or to learn more about the Junior League of Hampton Roads, please visit www.jlhr.org

Girls of Excellence, South Morrison Elementary in Newport News, is a 5th grade mentoring program for girls who excel academically and shine in their citizenship traits. Girls of Excellence meets weekly covering topics such as CPR/Basic First Aid, Babysitting Skills, Nutrition and Fitness, Personal Hygiene and the Spirit of Volunteerism. Members of the group also have the opportunity to participate in various field trips that provide cultural and educational experiences.

Since 1957, the JLHR has served our community by effectively training volunteers, providing leadership, raising funds and developing programs and services that make our community a better place to live, work and raise a family. In 2007, the JLHR directly improved the lives of women and children in our area. The donations were made possible through JLHR's numerous events including Casino Night at the VLM, Run for the Community at City Center, and through partnerships with the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula in association with Paula Deen. The JLHR also has numerous award winning publications that nationally generate donations back to Hampton Roads.

Mission: The Junior League of Hampton Roads, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
